For this project, I will create a paper sample book that focuses on the tactile experience of working with different papers. Paper from Modern Litho will be printed with templates for making paper airplanes, to encourage users to fully test the paper. Users should feel comfortable folding, cutting, and tearing the sheets to truly test them. It’s not an archival product. The (perforated) sheets will be bound and stored in a storage box designed to look like an airplane hangar. Paper information will be printed on the “wing” area of the template.
The book will be marketed at modern design houses, and the young graphic design professionals who manage and work for them. This audience subscribes to the ‘hustle’ mentality. They love when they can play while they work or work while they play. Either way, they’re always making progress toward their goals. Anything that lets them have fun while they work is welcomed.
Making professional decisions, like purchasing paper, can be a stuffy and boring experience. This book asks people to engage with the product to the fullest extent. Fold some paper airplanes, cut them, tear them, throw them! The finished planes are perfect for racing in an open plan office, or just bothering Angela in accounting.
The tone will be bright and engaging. The design will be clean and crisp, and will use colors that are playful, but not childish.
