The purpose of this project is to design more youthful, attractive, and efficient packaging for curated collections of tea light candles. The current standard for selling packages of tea lights is to pack them loose in bags, or layered in flat boxes. This leads to an unimpressive visual when it comes to shelving in stores. Standard tea light boxes are plainly-labeled; you wouldn’t know what they are at first glance without reading the label or intuiting from the items nearby that they are a type of candle. The product itself isn’t visible. Plastic bags of tea lights allow you to see the product, but they look sloppy when part of a display, and they easily fall off shelves or fall behind other products. This kind of packaging is also flimsy and tends to allow for dented and scratched candles.

This packaging solution will be aimed at women aged 18-34. The target customer is a young professional woman who likes to decorate her home seasonally and/or thematically. She is a fan of pop culture. She isn’t in a position to buy in bulk, or to spend more on individual candles in different, specific colors. She has only a small space to decorate and likes to switch it up regularly.

The design will sit on store shelves and in impulse buy areas. Each package will be made of plant-based plastics and recycled papers. The candles will be made of soy, because soy candles have a lower melting point than paraffin, and cools quickly. They’re safer, burn longer, and are more environmentally friendly.
